Eliza Lavina HARKEY
(1830-1888) |
Eliza Lavina HARKEY
General Notes: NOTES: Her first husband died in 1860. She remarried. Around 1867 when her second husband died, Eliza's farm was found to have coal on it. Somehow she was cheated out of the land (or sold out for far less than it was worth) and went to live with her son, John. She was a devote Presbyterian. Later in her life, her three daughters (Anna, Mary and Margaret) all died of tuberculosis within two years of each other (1884-1886). She nursed them throughout. In 1888, Eliza broke her leg when a team of mules ran away and threw her out of a wagon. She later died from it. Eliza married Jacob Robert MENDENHALL, son of Robert MENDENHALL and Anna HOYLE, in 1847 in Pope County, Arkansas. (Jacob Robert MENDENHALL was born on 14 May 1821 in Gastonia, Gaston County, North Carolina and died on 21 Jan 1860 in Greenwood, Sebastian County, Arkansas.) |
