Benjamin was friends with Sam Houston, an American politician and soldier best known for his role in bringing Texas into the United States, and the only American ever elected as Governor of two states.

Benjamin Hawkins died in 1836 in Texas, killed near Nagodoches.

Benjamin married Rebecca McINTOSH, daughter of William (Chief White Warrior) McINTOSH Jr. and Susannah (Su-gi) ROWE, in 1831 in Western Creek Nation. (Rebecca McINTOSH was born in 1815 in Georgia, died in 1888 in Oklahoma and was buried in Fame Cemetery, Fame, McIntosh County, Oklahoma.)
