NOTEWORTHY: John was a British nobleman and became Viscount Lymington (above a Baron, but below an Earl or Count) of Lymington, Hampshire, England in 1749;
His father died in 1749, so it was not until 1762 when his grandfather died that he inherited the earldom becoming the 2nd Earl of Portsmouth;
In 1755, he became a Doctor of Civil Law at Oxford University
