BIOGRAPHY (Crawford County, Arkansas, 1890) --
-- William M. Wynn, farmer, was born in Washington County, Arkansas in 1836, and is a son of Josiah and Harriet (Turner) Wynn, natives of Kentucky and Tennessee, respectively, who settled in Washington County in an early day. When William was about twelve, they came to Crawford County, Arkansas, and located one mile north of the present site of Alma, where his mother Harriet died.
-- William's father Josiah was twice married, was a farmer by occupation, was a member of the Masonic fraternity, and for many years served as a Justice of the Peace in Crawford County. Josiah's father was Harmon Wynn. William is the youngest child of nine born by his father's first marriage, twenty-three children having been born by both marriages.
-- In 1856 William married Martha Cumpton, of Hempstead County, Arkansas. This union was blessed with nine children. Mrs. William Wynn (Martha) has now been dead thirteen years.
-- During the war, William served four years and two months in the Confederate Army, in Capt. Winfrey's company, serving in Arkansas and the Indian Territory, and being in active service nearly all the time. He rode his own horse and bore his own expenses, never being reimbursed by the Government. After the war, William moved upon his present farm, which contains 160 acres, and is located near Alma.
-- William has now been a resident of Crawford County over forty years, and distinctly remembers when it was a wilderness, inhabited by wild game and Indians. In politics William is a Democrat. Mrs. Wynn was a member of the Baptist Church.

GRAVESTONE: The gravestone shown on Find A Grave, Memorial # 38381345 has William's date of birth as 1820 which was carved in stone. However, all the census data lists this William Wynn's birth year around 1836. It seems doubtful that such a major error would have been carved in stone, and none of his relatives at the time noticed the error. This brings to question whether that headstone belongs to this William Wynn, and whether 25 Apr 1912 was the date of death for this William Wynn. Unable to locate birth or death certificates for this William Wynn.
