--Son of Willis Yates and wife Miranda Osborn. He grew up in Guilford County.
--Occupation: Farmer
--Confederate Veteran; he enlisted in August 1864 and served as a Private in Company A, 52nd NC Infantry. He surrendered at Appomattox in 1865.
--He married #1 Mary Frances Shoe in 1866. They lived in Rowan County. They had 11 children, including: William F., John C., Carrie A., Evetta, George H., Mary Clementine, Rosie M., Christena, Minnie M., Charlie M. Yates.
--Following his wife's death, he married Evy Ann Eller on Sept. 15, 1901. No children of this marriage.
--His brother James C. Yates is also interred at Organ Lutheran Church.
