GERAL EUGENE "Jerry" JARRETT, 79, of 1012 Rowan Terrace Rockingham, N.C., formerly of Reidsville, died Friday, May 1, 2009, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, in Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites.

A native of Rockingham County,he was a son of the late Eugene R. and Margaret Bowman Jarrett and had lived the past 38 years in Rockingham. A retired employee of Southern Bell, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. A member of First United Methodist Church in Rockingham, he was a member of the Southern Bell Pioneers and was preceded in death by two sisters, Lynda Kay Jarrett and Joan Jarrett Harris.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bess Weaver Jarrett, of the home; two daughters, Cheryl Jarrett of Key West, Fla., and Malinda J. Thomas and husband, Michael, of Ft. Mill, S.C.; two sisters, Martha J. Cross and husband, David, of Reidsville and Julia J. Cisco and husband, Harley, of Kernersville, N.C.; six grandchildren, Jamey Pratt and wife, Victoria, Joey Pratt, David McDuffie, Dean McDuffie, Robbie Thomas, and Catherine Thomas; and a great- grandchild, Jamey Pratt Jr.
