James McBryde "Mac" Stanley was a native of Caswell County, NC. He was the son of Dora Belle and James Dotson Stanley; spouse of Louise Gwynn; father of Marie S. Robertson, Robert 'Bobby. M. Stanley, Jerry D. Stanley and Garland Ray Stanley; grandfather of Robert Stanley and Stephen Stanley; step-grandfather of Renea Martin and Mark Kennon and sibling of Henry Stanley, Annie Stanley Andrews, Bessie Stanley Mays and six other sisters.

He lived in Rockingham County most of his life. He was a retired employee of A&P Grocery Store where he worked for 30 years as a produce manager. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
