John Abram PRIOR

  General Notes:

NOTES: John Abram Prior was left in the care of his uncle John Rose in Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennslyvania when the Prior clan moved on to Ohio. John Rose was a brother to Abigail Rose, the mother of John Abram Prior. Perhaps John Abram did not get along with his step father, Jacob Eckelberry, or perhaps he needed to stay in Pennsylvania to complete his education in becoming a teacher at age 19. While John Abram Prior lived with John Rose, he learned the trade of cooper. Later in 1815, John Abram Prior moved to the Prior compound in Hopewell Township, Muskingum County, Ohio even though he had patented some other land a couple of years earlier.
When his father Nathan Prior died, Margaret Prior (Peggy) as well as John Abram Prior went to live with John Rose.
Each son was to be put to an apprenticeship when 14, but the apprenticeships were to be of their own choosing. I guess John selected cooperage since he was already with John Rose.

BURIAL: He and his wife are buried on their homestead

John married Patience Stiles MILLIKEN on 29 Jul 1812 in Greene County, Pennsylvania. (Patience Stiles MILLIKEN was born on 17 May 1794 in Mifflin, Juniata County, Pennsylvania and died on 4 Oct 1879 in Gratiot, Muskingum County, Ohio.)
