MILITARY: James enlisted in the Confederate Army July 5, 1861 in Halifax County NC. He was assigned to the 8th Infantry Regiment Company I. Promoted to Corporal. Wounded by gunshot and capture at Washington, NC. in Sept 6,1862. Released Feb. 1863. Captured at Fort Harrison Va. Caffins Farm Sept. 30, 1864. Sent to point Lookout Maryland. Released June 19, 1865.
