Lady Emma COLEBROOKE Countess of Tankerville
General Notes: NOTEWORTHY: Lady Tankerville amassed a large collection of exotic plants at Mount Felix. Her collection was thought to be the largest in the London area. Specimens named after Lady Tankerville include the Nun's Orchid. Artists were employed to create botanical drawings on vellum of her specimens. Her collection of over 600 illustrations were purchased by the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew Gardens in London in 1932. Research Notes: -- The Peerage, by Darryl Lundy (www.thepeerage.com/p3280.htm#i32797) Emma married Lord Charles BENNET 4th Earl of Tankerville, son of Lord Charles BENNET 3rd Earl of Tankerville and Lady Alicia ASTLEY Countess of Tankerville, on 7 Oct 1771 in England. (Lord Charles BENNET 4th Earl of Tankerville was born on 15 Nov 1743 in England and died on 10 Dec 1822.) |
