MILITARY: He gained the rank of Commander in the service of the Royal Navy NOTEWORTHY: He held the offices of Equerry and Extra Equerry to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh; Member of Parliament; Held the office of Lord-in-Waiting in Ordinary to HM Queen Victoria; Succeeded to the title of 13th Earl of Dalhousie in 1880; Succeeded to the title of 2nd Baron Ramsay of Glenmark in 1880; Succeeded to the title of 14th Lord Ramsay of Dalhousie in 1880; Succeeded to the title of 13th Lord Ramsay of Carrington in 1880; Invested as a Knight, Order of the Thistle in 1881; Held office of Secretary of State for Scotland in 1886 DEATH: His wife died of peritonitis (abdominal infection) at the age of 30 while in France after they returned from a trip to the United States. He was so distraught that he died of a stroke the next morning at age of 40.
